The two Departments of Buildings and Infrastructures and Emergency Support of the EUCENTRE foundation, have been awarded the “Call HUB Research and Innovation” with two projects that will produce cutting-edge tools for smart buildings and territorial monitoring for the Lombardy Region.
Fabrizio Sala, Vice-President of Lombardia Region, announced the 33 winners in a video message posted on Monday, October 7th. The call, with a total budget of €114 million, will fund strategic industrial research and experimental development projects to enhance the competitive and attractive capacity of the territory.
The project “NOCTUA – Landscape Monitoring. For everyone. From space”, is focused on the development of a land monitoring service available to all citizens. D-Orbit will lead a consortium of six members that includes Beta 80 S.p.A. Software e Sistemi, Fondazione EUCENTRE (Emergency Support Department), Istituto Universitario di Studi Superiori, Radarsensing s.r.l., TRE Altamira s.r.l., with the advice of Fondazione Politecnico di Milano and the support of Lombardia Aerospace Cluster and Fondazione Cluster Tecnologie per le Smart Cities & Communities – Lombardia. The project will develop an end-to-end service for territorial monitoring that will collect data from a specifically designed innovative satellite, analyze, reprocess, and distribute it to the whole community, from institutions to private citizens. It will enable the effective monitoring of infrastructures and natural resources enabling their appropriate maintenance and preservation, the prevention and timely intervention in the event of natural disasters, and the support of economic activities and collaboration between citizens and local communities. The project will also provide a modular and exportable commercial framework to export skills and knowledge developed entirely in the Lombardia Region, contributing to the sustainable development and safety of other regions.
The project “SAMBA – Smart and Advanced Multitenants Buildings Automation” project primarily responds to two types of specific needs: 1 the emerging technologies of the next generation: 5G, IoT and 2. the application of the “Smart Building” concept to the existing buildings. Kalpa will lead a consortium of five members that includes: AGEvoluzione S.r.l.s., Fondazione EUCENTRE (Buildings and Infrastructures Department), HARPACEAS, 3 P TECHNOLOGIES, ATS Advanced Technology Solutions SpA. The digital technologies applied to living and working spaces (and open spaces) would allow the development of systems and products, of which many companies in Lombardia could be leaders at international level, also considering the upcoming diffusion of 5G technologies that see in Milan and Lombardy elective territories of experimentation, opening up the possibilities for implementing “concepts” typical of smart cities and communities. The assessment and retrofitting of a building offers great opportunities not only in terms of energy efficiency but also in terms of staff productivity, maintenance / operating costs and environmental comfort.
The projects will have a 30-months duration from the signature date.
