On May 17th, 2024, at 3:00 PM, Prof. Brady R. Cox, PhD, PE from Utah State University (USA) will hold a seminar entitled “What Spatial Area Influence Seismic Site Response: Insights Gained from Non-invasive Testing and Multi-dimensional Ground Response Analyses at Borehole Array Sites” at the Aula didattica – Eucentre 3 (ground floor) of the EUCENTRE Foundation in Pavia. During the seminar, Prof. Cox will present a practical geostatistical approach. This approach, based on horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratio (HVSR or H/V) measurements, can be used to construct large and deep pseudo-3D shear wave velocity (Vs) models. These models are crucial for effectively accounting for spatial variability in seismic ground response analyses (GRAs). The seminar will also delve into the efficacy of various strategies used to account for spatial variability in 1D, 2D, and 3D GRAs, using several case histories based on recorded ground motions at borehole array sites.
Prof. Cox is an internationally renowned expert in seismic design and site characterization for major civil infrastructure projects and critical nuclear facilities. His research combines experimental field testing with computational analyses for subsurface imaging purposes and multi-dimensional seismic wave propagation simulations. The seminar will be held in English.
