On July 5th, 2024, during the 18th World Conference on Earthquake Engineering (WCEE2024), the Eucentre Foundation will open the doors of its laboratories for an exclusive technical visit. This unique opportunity will allow participants to explore Eucentre’s advanced facilities in Pavia and witness a vibrating table test.
Programme of the Day
During the visit, participants will witness a vibrating table test on masonry gable walls, part of the ERIES SUPREME project. This test aims to evaluate the seismic performance of gable walls by simulating the out-of-plane response to differential floor and roof accelerations. Thanks to Eucentre’s 9D system, which uses two vibrating tables operating simultaneously, it will be possible to check both movements simultaneously.
Collaborative Initiatives
In collaboration with the Delft University of Technology, the University of Pavia and TNO, researchers organised a blind prediction competition to predict the behaviour of the tested structures. This competition aims to involve the scientific community in the analysis and prediction of test results, promoting collaboration and innovation.
Other Points of Interest
In addition to the gable wall tests, visitors will see a recently constructed 12-metre masonry bell tower for structural testing. Although tests on the bell tower will not be conducted during this visit, participants will be able to learn about the reinforcement techniques used and the project’s objectives, highlighting the collaboration between Eucentre, ISAAC and MAPEI in protecting the architectural heritage.
The technical visit to the Eucentre, as well as the others, is an unmissable opportunity to learn more about seismic technologies and to see some of the most advanced innovations in the field of seismic protection in action.
